We purchased the entire stock of"Elephant" silk thread. When this runs out there is no more! Call or E-mail to confirm that thread is available before ordering. This was especially made for rod building.

  • "Elephant" silk thread is PURE NETT silk thread. This means that the thread is 100% pure silk, no additives. Nett refers to the thread being made from continuous cocoon filaments twisted together. Out thread also had a finish colour and smoothness which further refines the quality that is required for the rod making afficianado.

  • Spun silk thread is made from filaments 1" to 8" long spun together. The shorter filaments are the ends of the cocoon or broken pieces and are much less expensive.

  • Rod binding with our pure nett silk thread produces a finish without the "whiskers" or "hairs". Using spun silk will require burnishing to reduce the hairs. Our pure silk is essential when using varnish directly to the silk to ensure a homogenous bleed and a consistant colour.

  • Plain thread sizes and use of sizes: -
    -Size 00 is used for tip sections and small rods, our size is 60.
    -Size A is used for rod butt and middle sections and medium rods, our size is 40.
    -Size C is used for large double handed rods and saltwater rods, our size is 24.
